Billy Glenn Murphree, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away February 21, 2015. The son of James O. and Katie M. M. (Mabry) Murphree, Billy was born April 5, 1930 in Cullman, Alabama. After 30 plus years, he retired in 1986 as a machine repairman from Glass Containers, Inc. Billy enjoyed building model airplanes, working in his garage and getting away from home by going camping and fishing. Billy is survived by his ex-wife, Freda Pershing of Indianapolis; sons, Larry (Glenda) Murphree of Nashville, Indiana and Perry (Debi) Murphree of Indianapolis; daughter, Carolyn Parham of Indianapolis; brothers, Wendell Murphree of Cullman, Alabama and Terry Murphree of Panama City Beach, Florida; sisters, Hellice White of Altoona, Alabama, Margaret Bolan of Joliet, Illinois, Jacqulon Martin of Cullman, Alabama, Daulene Mattox of Vinemont, Alabama, Jayne Turner of Trussville, Alabama and Claudette Hatchett of Riverside, Alabama; 5 grandchildren, Steve Slinkard, Shawn Slinkard, Tammy Rube, Melissa Murphree and Shelby Murphree; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Brenice Murphree; a sister, Theresa Laney and grandson, Larry Murphree, II. Services 1:00 p.m. February 25, 2015 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home – 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. February 24th at the funeral home. Burial at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood. The family has requested that memorial contributions may be made to a local food pantry.
