Roy Carroll

Roy Lewis Carroll, 75, of Mishawaka died on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 9:48 PM. Roy was born on September 7, 1941 in Tennessee to James and Mary Carroll, who both preceded him in death. Roy was a graduate of Mishawaka High School. He joined the Army in 1964 and served in Germany during the war in Vietnam. He was very proud of serving and loved telling stories of his years in the United States Army. He especially was fond of having his brother-in-law, Wayne Conway, who passed away two hours after Roy, being in the military at the same time. Roy enjoyed telling how he would get a pass to go to Wayne’s house. Roy also loved riding his jet ski and continued until his health stopped him a few years ago. He still took boat rides every summer and was a favorite past time. Roy was a very hard worker; he put in almost 30 years at Uniroyal until they closed. That didn’t stop him, after Uniroyal he worked as a security guard for Monaco Coach. He looked forward to summertime so he could work in his yard. Roy made many special friends along the way, although he was a quiet man, those friends know how special they were and how they always held a special place in his heart. All of his friends meant the world to him by a special thank you to Rick Berry who was always there to lend a helping hand. On February 11, 1966, he married Linda Hunsley, who survives. He told everyone how grateful he was for the care given to him for the last 51 years and he couldn’t have done it without her. He is also survived by two children, Jeff (Shelly) Carroll of South Bend, and Lori (David) Gnoth of Granger; four grandchildren, Ashlyn Havens of Indianapolis, Taylor Havens of Granger, Dylan Carroll of South Bend, and PV2 Sean Carroll of Ft. Gordon, Augusta, GA. Roy loved to tease the grandkids about who was the favorite; however, everyone knew it was the grand dog, Pepper. Roy is also survived by six siblings, Louise (Wayne) Conway of Georgia, JR of South Bend, Top (Houston) Young of Florida, Sue (Doug) Swihart and Faye (Larry) Strycker both of Mishawaka, and Paulette (Jim) Kuzmanovich of Florida. Roy will be deeply missed by family and friends. We all know he is in Heaven with his parents and brother-in-law and is pain free. We are comforted in knowing this is not the end. We will all be together again when it is our time or the trumpet sounds. Friends and family will be received on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 10-1 PM at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561 with the funeral service beginning at 1 PM. Pastor Scott Smith of the South Side Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
