Our dear Mother, Betty Rose Cameron, age 94, of LaGrange, Texas, and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2018, in LaGrange.
Betty was born in Reelsville on Nov 6, 1923, the third and youngest child of Fred C. Archer and Edna (Dunn) Archer. The family moved often in her early years due to her father's job with the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1931, at Betty's age 7, the family moved to the Charleston, Ill., area, where her father took over the operation of the family farm. Betty grew up on the farm and remained there until 1944, when she left for Amarillo, Texas, to marry our Dad, Robert (Bob) Farr, who was stationed there with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. For the duration of the war, Betty followed her husband around the country from Texas to California to Georgia to Delaware, the various places he was stationed while in flight training. After the war, the couple along with their baby daughter, Sherry, returned to live in Terre Haute.
In 1969, Betty married Mel Cameron, and they continued to live in the Terre Haute area until 1982, when they moved to LaGrange, due to Mel's job transfer with General Telephone. Betty also worked for General (now Verizon) and they both continued to work there until they retired. By that time they had put down roots in LaGrange, and they remained there after retirement.
For all who had the pleasure of knowing her, Betty was the sweetest, kindest, and most giving person they had ever known. She always had a smile, never complained, had a positive attitude, and treated every person with whom she came in contact with courtesy, kindness, and respect regardless of their station in life. She never had a bad word to say about anyone.
Betty was an active and devoted member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in LaGrange. She had a strong Christian faith and attended church and Bible study regularly. After retirement, she gave freely of her time and money to numerous charitable organizations. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Leonard Archer, sister-in-law, Kathryn Archer, a sister, Evelyn Davis, brother-in-law, Eustace Davis, her best friend, Ann Bennett, and two nieces.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Mel Cameron of LaGrange; a daughter, Sherry (Ron) Lloyd of Staunton, Ind.; a son, Mike (Nancy) Farr of Terre Haute; and a son, Mark Farr of Cloverdale, Ind. Also, grandchildren, Greg (Tina) Lloyd, Karen (Mike) Mager, Katie Lloyd, Michael (Sarah) Meneghini, Chris (Elizabeth) Farr, Lori (Adam) Diemer; 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
We love and miss you, Mother, but we are at peace knowing you are with God and reunited with your parents, siblings and friends who went before you. We will live the rest of our lives to the fullest, with the knowledge that we will be reunited with you again someday.
Funeral services were held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in LaGrange on July 28, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 208 North Walnut Street, Brazil, Ind., on Aug. 10, 2018, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Brazil, or to the charity of your choice.
