Eloise “Lois” Deloris Compton, 86, of Mooreland, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at her residence with her family by her side.

She was born July 19, 1932 in Faubush, Kentucky to the late Lee Otis and Josie (Smith) Johnson.

Lois married the love of her life, Jesse Compton, on December 30, 1950. She worked in food service at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle for 22 years and attended the Mooreland Friends Meeting. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and loved preparing food for her family. Lois also enjoyed gardening and quilting.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Barbara (husband: Richard) Lyles of Rushville, Maxine Moss of Mooreland, John (wife: Collinda) Compton of Evansville, Judy (husband: Ross) Halstead of Mooreland, Diane Thompson of Mooreland, Tim Compton of Middletown, Janet Stearns of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Sherry Slaven, Sally Burris, Jeffrey Compton, Jesse Compton, Julie (husband: Jay) Clapp, Craig (wife: Kim) Swoveland, Kristi (husband: Jarod) Mosier, Justin Stearns, Wendy Adkins, Josie Compton, Alicia Compton, Keegan Compton, Angela Thompson, Jennifer (husband: Eric) Maxwell, Doug (wife: Katie) Thompson, Jason (wife: Brandi) Burton, Jody Burton and Valerie Atchley; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Compton of Somerset, KY and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jesse Compton on December 2, 2006; a grandson, Brian Compton; a great-granddaughter, Jenna Mosier; three sons-in-law, Harry “Junior” Thompson, Wayne Moss and Earl Stearns; four brothers, Lloyd Johnson, Arlie Johnson, George Johnson, her twin, Elroy Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Brenda Earley officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 12 – 3 pm prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
