Deanie was born in Morgan County, Tennessee on December 16, 1922. She was the oldest of five children born to the late Alfred M. and Celia (Justice) Melton. On March 22, 2019 Deanie passed away in Century Villa Health Center, Greentown.
The Melton family came to Indiana when Deanie was a child and settled in the Miami County area where Deanie attended school and graduated from Amboy High School. After highschool she married Ralph Day. Mr. Day was a WWII Marine veteran and passed away after returning from the war. Later she married Willard “Trent” Chase and together they had a daughter, Karen Sue. Deanie and Trent owned and operated Chase and Houser Grocery and Meat Market in Peru. Mr. Chase preceded her in death in 1983. Deanie enjoyed shopping and was a member of the Gold Star Wives of America, the local Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Amboy Methodist Church and Eastern Star.
Deanie is survived by her granddaughter, Melana Rambo, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Dakota and Carlotta, both of Missouri; niece, Jan (Kent) Sumpter.
She is also preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen Sue (Moses) Ornela; three brothers, Robert D. Melton, Warren Melton and Rolland Melton; sister, June Hostetler.
