TERRE HAUTE [mdash] With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gerald Modesitt, age 88, on November 24, 2020, due to COVID-19 and pneumonia. He was born on January 24, 1932 in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Mildred Beddow and Fred Modesitt.
Jerry witnessed incredible changes to the world throughout his life, first serving in the U.S. Air Force which took him oversees to France. He is a graduate of Riley High School and attended Indiana State University. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jerry. He loved to spend winters in Florida near Vero Beach.
Jerry spent many years in the insurance industry before becoming an entrepreneur. He built and created three roller rinks, and later constructed Springhill Plaza, which contains the Terre Haute Bowling Center. Jerry was a lifelong member of the Elks Club as well as a lifelong member of the VFW and American Legion.
Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Modesitt; as well as a grandson, Christopher Ray.
Jerry's love for life didn't come to an end with his death. His loved ones will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Living forward, he is survived by his wife, Marcia Tucker Modesitt; and children, Rebecca (Fred) Boger, Tracy (Jerry) Dany, Bryan (K.J.) Modesitt, Blake (Ann) Modesitt, Linda Cauble, Terry Ray and Todd (Joan). He is also survived by grandchildren Chantel Lang, Brittany Boger, Jake Boger, Jed Dant, Zach Dant, Chad Modesitt, Catelin Modesitt, Kelsey Ray, Tucker Ray, Jonathan Ray and Allie Ray; along with great-grandchildren; nephews Gerry Modesitt and Terry Modesitt; sister-in-law Sheila Tucker Kaperak; and close friends Noble Corey, Jack Pattison, Rick Braden and the late Butch Correll.
