CLINTON [mdash] Robert A. Fullerton, 93, of Clinton, passed away, Monday, April 5, 2021 at Alden Poplar Creek – Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Private Family Services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert's grandsons Lucas Fullerton, Jordan Fullerton, Marcus Fullerton, Kenneth Fullerton, and Stephen Fullerton as honorary pallbearer. Robert Andrew Fullerton was born on January 11, 1928 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Alice (Stodden) Fullerton. He served in the United States Army from 1946-1948. He was a radio operator for the 1st Cavalry in the Occupation Forces in Tokyo, Japan.
After returning from the war, Robert spent 3 years at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA studying chemistry with an accounting minor. After moving to California he continued taking classes at USC and UCLA while working for American Latex.
He married Gretchen Hindley on September 27, 1952 in Redondo Beach, California; she passed away on January 19, 2009.
Robert was a computer systems program engineer with Alcoa for 32 years before retiring in 1990.
Robert was a past member of the Clinton Symphony Orchestra Board, Clinton Community Concert Association member, and the AMVETS.
Robert also served as a volunteer bus driver for several years for Sacred Heart Parish in the early '60s. He was an avid sailor, having built one of his own sailboats and a kayak, and helping to build 2 other large trimaran sailboats with friends.
Robert is survived by his children: Michael J. Fullerton of Chicago, IL, Leslie A (Ronald) Porterfield of Hoffman Estates, IL, Andrew M. Fullerton of Boone, IA, Mathew J. Fullerton of Des Moines, IA; 10 grandchildren: Abbi Togtman, Sabryna Tripp, Cara Young-Smith, Teresa Gurges, Lucas Fullerton, Jordan Fullerton, Jessica Carrasquillo-Fullerton, Marcus Fullerton, Steven Fullerton, and Kenneth Fullerton: 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife and a baby daughter, Mary Fullerton.
