Toby L. Ailes, 57, passed away unexpectedly in his Fairmount home on October 11, 2021. He was born in Marion on January 31, 1964 to the late Robert E. and Audrey F. (Booth) Ailes. Toby was raised in the Gas City area and was a 1982 graduate of Mississenewa High School.
Toby became a member of the Marion Fire Department on September 21, 1998. He spent 18 years of dedicated service to the department and quickly became a respected leader. Due to a line of duty injury Toby retired on September 6, 2016. His service and leadership was extraordinary and he is credited with many of his crew’s accomplishments. His knowledge and talent were second to none. Toby loved going to the fire station and his firefighter brothers absolutely loved working with him. It was their privilege and honor to serve along side him and they will love and forever remember him.
Always lending a helping hand, Toby generously gave his time and talent to anyone who asked. He was a collector of many things and never passed up an opportunity to stop at a rummage sale near or far. If someone was looking for a specific item the likelihood of Toby having just what they were looking for was great. He enjoyed motorcycle trips to South Carolina and Florida and all around the state of Indiana. Toby was deeply patriotic and believed in our country’s freedom. He was a member of the Tribe Motorcycle Club and generously supported their cause in the support of veterans and disadvantaged community members. Most of all Toby loved his family and was always dedicated to supporting them.
Toby is survived by his wife, April A. Ailes, Fairmount; children, Brayton L. Ailes and Dalton L. Ailes, both of Greenfield; Malissa M. (Jordan) Parks, Hawaii; Tilar A. (Zach) Myers, Marion; Katlyn R. Simon, Ft. Wayne; siblings, Chirs (Chris) Ailes and Curtis (Lora) Ailes, both of Jonesboro; Teri Zoda, Marion; six grandchildren, Alijah Parks, Aiden Parks, Waylon Myers, Weston Myers and Alice and Avery.
