    John was born in Marion on August 6, 1941 to the late Robert E. and Cora Belle (Futrell) Nelson. He passed away on December 19, 2018 in his Gas City home. John was a 1960 graduate of Mississinewa High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served until his retirement in 1980.
