April 10, 2014 Roger G. Haessig Roger G. Haessig, 73, of Syracuse, formerly of Milan and Berne, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at his home. He was born June 13, 1940, in Milan, the son of Loren H. Haessig and Alma D. (Roberts) Haessig. He married Ellamae Speakman on August 21, 1965, in Union Chapel United Methodist Church, Decatur, and she survives. Roger was a member of Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene in Berne where he had served as treasurer and Sunday school secretary. He was a graduate of Milan High School in 1958. He received his bachelor’s degree from Asbury College and his masters in education from St. Francis College. He taught math at North Judson Middle School for five years and had worked at Gilpin, Inc. in Decatur for 26 years. Survivors include his wife, Ellamae Haessig of Syracuse; sons, David M. (Kim) Haessig of Milford, Daryl L. (Susan) Haessig of Syracuse; daughter, Karen (Sunu) Thomas of South Bend; brothers, Donald Haessig and Nelson Haessig, both of Milan; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Haessig. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 12, at Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene, Berne with Pastor David Boots officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Berne. Michael G “Mike” Craven, 67, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born Friday, February 22, 1946 in Batesville the son of the late Warren Craven and Verna Naegele Craven. He worked for LMS Water Conservatory, retiring after over 27 years of service. He was a 1964 graduate of Milan High School. Mike was a member of the U.S. Auto Club Mechanic. He loved racing, and even served as a pit crew member for Johnny Parsens, Jr. racing all over the south and east regions of the U.S. Mike also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his mother, Verna Craven of Milan; sisters, Phyllis (Ralph) Joerger of Guilford, Melissa (Michael) McMannon of Independence, KY; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Warren. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, February 6 at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora. December 5, 2013 Mildred M. Kamman Mildred M. Kamman, 94 of Friendship, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Ross Manor in Dillsboro. She was born near Cross Plains on August 25, 1919, the daughter of George and Mary Hoffmeyer Acre. She was married to Eldred Kamman in April of 1940 and he preceded her in death on July 19, 1978. Survivors include two sons, Glen Kamman of Friendship and Keith (Susie) Kamman of Conroe, Texas; one daughter, Carol Steele of Fishers; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Ora Alsop of Cross Plains. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law Ralph Steele, her sister Hazel Wolsterman, and her brother Russell Acre. Mrs. Kamman was a 1937 graduate of Versailles High School. She served as postmaster for the Friendship Post Office for 33 years, and along with her husband owned and operated Kamman’s Grocery in Friendship from 1958 to 1982. Mildred was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Dewberry for over 70 years. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Rev. Holt on October 1, 1937 and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1989.  Margaret was a homemaker and was a member of the Hope Baptist Church.  She loved her farm home, gardening and spending time with the family. William “Bill” Sheckels William “Bill” Sheckels, 87 of Milan, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at his home.  He was born Friday, August 13, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Theodore and Trula Mae (Ailor) Sheckels. He married Virginia (Laws) Sheckels on September 3, 1949 and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2005.  Bill served in the US Army Air Corps and was a member of the Milan First Baptist Church, the Cheviot, Ohio, Masonic Lodge, Versailles Lions Club, the American Legion, and was a life member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati.  Bill had been project manager for Union 392. Bill is survived by sons, Timothy (Laura), Theodore (Constance) and Thomas (Anne Marie) Sheckels; daughter, Odella (Samuel) Boehringer; and 11 grandchildren.
